The VI Judicial Forum of the Ukrainian Advocates’ Association, held on March 15, 2024 in Kyiv, featured important and relevant discussions about the future of justice.
\nOne of the speeches at the first session titled “Courts 2024: Battle for Independence” was delivered by Olena Fonova, a member of the Board of Directors of the NGO Pro Justice Center.
\nIn her report, Ms. Fonova emphasized the importance of judges’ dedication and security to ensure their independence, focusing on the context of Luhansk as an integral part of Ukraine.
\nShe expressed her belief that supporting judges and ensuring their security is one of the aspects of building a state governed by the rule of law.
\nHer remarks on online justice as a necessary and inevitable future were particularly interesting.
\n“It is obvious that the introduction of online court processes is not only the next step in solving the problem of staff shortages in the courts, but also a key step in the digitalization of justice and its adaptation to modern realities,” she emphasized.
\nAccording to Olena, the availability of clear algorithms for conducting remote trials can help minimize the influence on court decisions, as well as provide favorable conditions for judicial independence and increase trust in the judiciary.
\nThis opinion emphasized the importance of continuous improvement of the judicial system to ensure that it meets the challenges of today and provides equal access to justice for all citizens of Ukraine. <\/div>\n<\/div>\n
