On November 16, Kyiv hosted the XII Judicial Forum: “The Judiciary: How to Overcome the Crisis?”, organized by the Ukrainian Bar Association in cooperation with the USAID Justice for All Program. Speakers and guests of the Forum included representatives of the judiciary, legislative and executive branches of government, prosecutors, leading attorneys, foreign experts, academics and public figures. The Forum was held in the format of sessions and thematic panel discussions to discuss topical issues related to justice and the judiciary in Ukraine. Olena FONOVA, Judge/Speaker of the Economic Court of Luhansk Region, Member of the Board of the NGO MEC “Pro Justice”, PhD in Law, participated as an expert in the panel discussion on property disputes involving the state and compensation for damages. The panel, in which Judge Olena FONOVA participated as an expert, focused on disputes over the expropriation of property, return of land to state and municipal ownership, and compensation for damages to civilians as a result of the war.
