On December 26, 2024, professional standards for judges and prosecutors were officially included in the Qualifications Register. This is an important step for the legal community made possible by USAID support under the Justice for All Program. MEC Pro Justice is proud that Olena Fonova, co-founder of the organization and judge-speaker of the Economic Court of Luhansk Oblast, joined the creation of the professional standard “Judge”. 💬 Olena Fonova:
“The competencies defined in the standard form the basis for the effective exercise of judicial powers. In addition to legal knowledge, ethical standards and communication skills, special attention is paid to digital competencies. A modern judge must be prepared to work with electronic court systems, ensure remote hearings, and comply with cybersecurity. These skills will help to increase the transparency and efficiency of the judicial system.” The implementation of this standard will contribute to the professional development of the judiciary, the formation of common criteria for evaluating judges’ work, and strengthening trust in the judiciary. Digitalization of judicial proceedings will help adapt the judicial system to modern challenges, make it more convenient and accessible to citizens. 📖 More information about the standards is available on the website of the National Qualifications Agency.
