๐ On March 24, 2025, a lecture for law students on Compensation for Damage Caused by the Armed Aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine was held at the National Training Institute No. 5 .
The lecture was delivered by Olena Fonova, co-founder of the Interregional Expert Center “Pro Justice”, and Iryna Anton, senior lecturer at the Department of Legal Support of Business and Financial Security.
๐ Olena Fonova presented the students with impressive statistics on the damage caused to Ukraine’s economy:
- $157 billion in direct losses to residential and non-residential real estate, infrastructure, transportation and goods
- $1.164 trillion in indirect financial losses to the economy
- $80 billion in losses in the agricultural sector
- $10.3 billion – the value of destroyed assets
- $69.8 billion – losses of farmers from lost income and higher costs
๐ During the class, the expert explained to the students in detail the peculiarities of applying the 1965 Convention on the Service Abroad of Judicial and Extrajudicial Documents. Particular attention was paid to the issues of identifying defendants in cases of compensation for damages and ways to properly notify the Russian party of the court proceedings.
๐ฅ The participants of the event also learned about the Register of Damages (RD4U), its legal basis, mechanism of operation, algorithm of filing applications and prospects for obtaining compensation for losses.
