On December 9, 2024, the Collegium Lyceum in Sievierodonetsk, Luhansk Oblast, hosted a human rights education event for high school students dedicated to International Human Rights Day. Students of grades 10-11 took part in a discussion on “Human Rights in Time of War: Guarantees and Restrictions”. The event was organized by students and teachers of the Law Faculty of the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University with the support of the PRO BONO legal clinic. A special moment of the event was the communication with the guest of honor – Olena Fonova, judge of the Economic Court of Luhansk region, PhD in Law and member of the public organization “MEC Pro Justice”. Ms. Fonova shared her practical knowledge of human rights protection under martial law with the students and conducted an interactive survey on “Myths about the work of a judge.” The participants had the opportunity to express their ideas about the judicial profession, and the expert refuted common stereotypes in an engaging way and talked about the realities of judicial activity. The event was held in the format of live communication: high school students actively participated in the discussion, asked questions and expressed their own views on human rights. We express our gratitude to the organizers, students and Ms. Olena Fonova for meaningful communication, motivation and help in overcoming stereotypes! After all, knowledge is the key to understanding, and understanding is the basis for protecting human rights.
